First, on Sunday April 8, XML in 180 Minutes, which has been presented to thousands of people as their first introduction to XML from a business and technical standpoint, was offered to a receptive audience.
Then two educational sessions were presented on Friday, April 13, 2001. Capturing and Managing Information Assets Using XML in the morning, showed developers how to identify and analyze relevant kernels of information and turn them into fully functional XML-based data assets. Later the same day, developers
were offered a session, entitled XML & e-Commerce - Powered Data-Driven Web Architectures. This was an industrial-strength, intensive session focusing on the integration of various XML technologies to solve real-world e-Business problems. Attendess learned, through discussion and working code examples, how to get the most out of their Web-based e-Commerce architectures by using XML at strategic parts in their systems.

This tutorial covers two approaches to using XML in an application. First, we cover the in-memory tree model implemented by the W3C Document Object Model. This object parses an XML document and makes it available to your program as a hierarchical tree. Then, we cover event-driven interfaces. These interfaces expose an XML document as series of events that are captured by rules and processed. The advantage of the event model is that it allows immediate processing of large documents.
